Dedicated to all firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty, this emotional work was inspired by the heroic work of those who battled wildfires near the composer's home on the West Coast. This sensitive and expressive piece includes a somber and quiet opening section, lyrical solos for flute, clarinet, and oboe, emotional melodic lines, lush harmonies, appealing contrasts of dynamic and texture, a powerful climax, and a soft, peaceful ending.
