Description:
In Full Glory Reflected was commissioned by the Tri-Lakes Band Director's Association of Tennessee on the occasion of their fortieth anniversary; the work was originally titled Bicentennial Prelude, and was premiered under that title.
Composed in 2014, the piece commemorates the 200th anniversary of The Star Spangled Banner, and fragments of the anthem's melody are used as a melodic basis throughout this composition. With a few exceptions, the entire work follows a 6/8+3/4 rhythmic meter. To tie the composition more closely to the USA's national anthem -- and also avoid confusion with the United States' Bicentennial celebration -- the title was changed to match an excerpt from the second stanza of Francis Scott Key's original Defense of Fort McHenry:
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
